A robot mower’s rated lawn area means very little on its own. This site works out what an ordinary machine in each class actually claims, so you can see where any particular one sits against it.

Most robot mower advice tells you which one is best. This site tells you what the market looks like, so you can see where any particular machine sits in it. A mower rated for a quarter acre sounds generous until you know the median in its class — and knowing that is the difference between a decision and a guess.

Start with the finder

Four questions about your lawn and how you like it cut, and the robot mower finder narrows the catalogue to the ones that fit. Each result is shown against the median for its own lawn-size class, so a result is not just a match — it is a match you can size up.

What a baseline is, and why it is the whole point

A single average across every robot mower would be meaningless. This corpus holds machines rated from a few hundred square feet to eight acres, and someone shopping a small suburban garden is not served by a number that includes a smallholding machine. So baselines are computed per navigation technology and per lawn-size class.

They are computed along one axis at a time rather than across their combination, and that is a deliberate limit rather than a shortcut. Three technologies by five size classes is fifteen cells, and only two of them hold enough listings for a median to mean anything. Publishing the other thirteen would be inventing precision. That produces 10 baselines across 10 groups. Where a group holds fewer than 8 listings, no baseline is published at all.

The figure nobody else publishes

Every mower here also carries a claim density: its rated lawn area divided by its cutting width, in square feet per centimetre of deck. No manufacturer publishes it and it is not a quality score. It says how much lawn a machine is claimed to cover for the width it actually cuts — and a figure well above its class median means the rating leans on hours of running rather than on cutting any faster. It is the fastest way to see which ratings are ambitious.

What we do not do

We do not physically test robot mowers, and we say so on every page. There is no test lawn here, no stopwatch, no slope rig. What we have is the whole catalogue read consistently, which is a different kind of useful and an honest one.

We do not publish star ratings or review counts, and we do not print exact prices — prices change daily and a figure captured on a scrape date is misleading by the time you read it. Where a listing does not state a specification, we print not stated rather than a plausible default.

How the corpus is cleaned

Search results for robot mowers are full of things that are not robot mowers — push mowers, corded mowers, remote-control machines a person drives, and weatherproof garages sold on their own. Some listings state a lawn area their own specification table contradicts. Every one of those is corrected or excluded before a single figure is published, and the methodology page documents exactly how, including the cases where the process fails.
